I am fascinated by what can emerge when something new grows from an initial impulse – when colour, texture, light and, more recently, music find their own way into a painting. My art invites you to look more closely, to discover something new and to engage with what may only become visible at second glance.

My paintings do not always begin in the same way. Sometimes it is a landscape, a particular quality of light or a detail in nature. Sometimes it is an encounter, a memory or a photograph that sparks something in me. And since 2026, music has also become a starting point for some of my paintings. I often begin with an idea of where a painting might lead. But as I work, much can change. Colours develop a life of their own, textures emerge and are reworked, forms appear or disappear. I try to give these changes space and not hold too tightly to my original idea. A photograph can be a starting point, but it is never something I simply want to reproduce. What interests me is what touches me in that particular moment – perhaps the light, a certain mood, a sense of movement or just a small detail. From there, something of my own gradually begins to emerge. I work with brushes, palette knives and my hands, building up different layers of colour, textures and materials. I often begin on a dark ground, where light and intense colours can develop a particular luminosity. I experiment, change things, paint over them – and allow myself to be surprised by what emerges in the process. A painting does not have to end the way it began. For me, an important part of painting is staying open to what develops along the way.

Some paintings continue to change as they take shape. In “Verbunden im Wachsen” (“Connected in Growth”), this process can be seen particularly clearly: from the freely painted background, through the first lines, to the colourful connections of the finished work. As I painted, the idea of two people growing from something shared gradually emerged. Each develops in their own direction and follows their own path – yet something remains that connects them both.
